Our Mission

Reach Each Child aims to improve nutritional status during the first 1,000 days of life, with a goal of reducing stunting by 40% in children under 5 and keeping childhood wasting rates below 5% and ensuring that there are 0 deaths due to malnutrition.

Reach Each Child aims to provide support and care for mothers and children during the first 1000 days of a mother and child’s life. The programme’s guiding principles throughout the journey have been adopting a lifecycle approach to nutrition; gender sensitivity and inclusivity; community ownership and early prevention. The initiative is constructed around reducing the number of stunted children under-5 by 40% and reduce and maintain child wasting to < 5% with a multisectoral and multi-dimensional approach, taking up the following targeted interventions:

Promoting good nutritional practices (improving micronutrients through food fortification and micro diversity )

Therapeutic feeding for malnourished children with special foods

Increasing intake of vitamins, minerals for young children and their mothers

Using technology to create multimedia stimuli and behavioural nudges

Equipping nutrition workers and expectant mothers with mobile nutrition kits

Organising promotional community events

Providing incentivisation via conditional-cash-transfers

Employing first-of-its-kind-female-only Community Nutrition Workers to promote good nutritional practices within communities

Project locations

Geography

Nandurbar and Amaravati are both predominantly tribal and hilly, remote districts on the edges of northern Maharashtra. The Pawra and Bhil communities dominate the Nandurbar district and Korku, Gond, Lohar communities are prevalent in Amravati.

Both the districts are primarily agricultural kharif cycle districts, which experience mass seasonal migration to neighboring states of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh between November and March.
